Last night was our wards Trunk or Treat! The kids had a blast and we officially debuted their costumes for this year :)
Ready to get some candy :)
This kid went back and forth between deciding to dress up or not. He had decided to not dress up and we were okay with that.
But Saturday night before our family party he mentions that IF he did dress up he would want to be a maze runner....
IF! I knew that if meant he really did want to and I just needed to make it happen. Jeff took him to the store where they looked for items that would make the vest thing work. But couldn't find anything. I was already in the middle of making Delaney's costume and told him we'd try and figure something out. I was determined to make it happen for him. It was late so I decided I would get up early Sunday morning and see what I could do. I dreamed about it, I pictured it and woke up early to see what I could do. It's not perfect but the happiness in Haden's eyes when he saw what I was working on made it totally worth it!
After getting other supplies, buckles, belts, etc. we made it work!
Introducing Haden aka Thomas from The Maze Runner!
Grant had originally wanted to be Riddler. But after going to Halloween stores with Jeff, he found this and was so excited to be something scary :)
Introducing Grant aka Ringwraith from Lord of the Rings!
This costume was fun to put together and Cole was very much into the details. From the exact shoe lace color to the length of the shorts. We got it down and made him happy!!
Introducing Hiro from Big Hero 6!
Cole and Kahle decided a while ago that they wanted to do this theme. It made us laugh! A lot! And then even more so when Kahle put this costume on. It is perfect for him! And during the trunk or treat, when we had turned his fan off, and he was deflating, he said 'low battery' (but say it like Baymax would). His personality was perfect for this costume. He was also a HUGE hit at the trunk or treat. He loved and hated the attention :)
Introducing Kahle aka Baymax from Big Hero 6!
To get the curly hair we wanted we tied her hair in straws.
But the curl in her hair with the curl of the straws gave us this. We laughed!
Then we got this. So I took a curling iron and loosely straightened it out. For Halloween, I think we'll leave it more like this, and not straightened it so much! Lesson learned!
For the first time ever, I sewed with a pattern. It was quite an experience. And took MANY hours! Delaney is another that pays attention to detail, so it had to be just right. In the end of it all, her excitement and smile made those hours feel worth it :)
Introducing Delaney aka Merida from Brave!
From the trunk or treat I found something easy and that we had pretty much all of the supplies for. We decorated with a large spider, spider eggs and LOTS of spider webs.....
We won the scariest trunk award. The kids were SO proud of it. It made me giggle but glad that it worked out :)
Taking the kids around to all the different trunks.
This kid, for the second year in a row, stayed and passed out candy. He is so cute with the kids and commenting on their costumes. Such a good sport!
We had a ton of fun last night and I was so glad that Jeff was able to be there with us! Makes it that much more fun :)
